Delores Dorothy Thompson, 92, passed away on January 3, 2024 with loved ones by her side at her home in North Plains.
Delores was born on August 19, 1931 in Marion, N Dakota. She was the third of five children born to Frederick and Martha (Baier) Weight. Delores lived in North Dakota until the age of five when her family moved to the Schefflin area. Here she attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School. When she was in the 8th grade, her family moved to a small farm on Pumpkin Ridge. She attended Hillsboro High School graduating with the class of 1949. After high school Delores got her own apartment in Portland and worked for Montgomery Ward, the telephone company, and Sherman Williams Music. She took great pride in her book keeping skills and received special recognition from her employer for accuracy and her ability to spot errors.
She met her future husband, Roy A. Thompson, at the Skyline Barn Dance. They soon began dating and married on January 2, 1953 at the Old Zion Church in Hillsboro. They lived in San Diego during Roy's enlistment in the US Navy. At the end of Roy's service in the Navy, they returned to North Plains where they lived until 1967 when they built a home on Meek Road in Hillsboro. They had four children together–Debra, Michael, Randy, and Jeffrey. In 2000 they decided to downsize and moved back to a house in North Plains just a few blocks from the house they had built at the beginning of their married life. Roy passed away October 5, 2004.
Delores was a homemaker who devoted herself to creating a warm and welcoming home for family and friends. She was famous for her cookies and would often have fresh baked cookies waiting for her children when they arrived home from school. She loved to garden, often working outside even after the sun went down. Roy And Delores enjoyed trips to the beach (especially Yachats Beach) and working around their home together. One of their greatest joys was spending time with their grandchildren.
Delores is preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy, her parents, her sisters Frieda Parks and Ellen Risseeuw, and brothers Elmer Weight and Ron Weight.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Debra Henderson of Cottage Grove, Mike and Marci Thompson of Hillsboro, Randy and Sharon Thompson of Castle Rock, CO, Jeffrey and Elizabeth Thompson of Portland, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
