Obituary

Joseph Blaine Overman, 94, a resident of the Hillsboro community, died Saturday, January 27, 2024, at his residence.

JOSEPH BLAINE OVERMAN was born November 1, 1929, in Cochise, Arizona, the son of the late Joseph B. Overman, Sr. and Eda Lula (Rasmussen) Overman. He was raised and received his education in the Villisca, Iowa community.

He was a military veteran having served eight years in the United States Army, until he received his honorable discharge. Joe served in Korea just before the war, San Francisco and Tokyo. During that time, he completed his high school GED.

Joe was united in marriage to Pat Hanlon in San Francisco, California. They were married for thirty-three years.

He was then partnered with Germaine Becker of Chicago, Illinois. They were inseparable, both working, living and traveling together for ten years, until she preceded him in death.

Joe then celebrated twenty years together with his domestic partner, Marcelline MacDonald. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2021.

Joe worked in the technology industry, first in the army where he was trained to work with electronic data processing machines, the forerunner of the computer. After military service, Joe was a computer operator for Crown Zellerbach Company for twenty-five years. Following that he owned and operated a print shop and an auto upholstery shop.

He was active with the SKP RV Group at luncheons and some campouts. While doing so, Joe visited with an RV friend, Marcelline MacDonald, whose husband had also passed away. They continued their RV travel together. Their companionship had added to His Wonderful Life for over twenty years.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Forest Grove.

Among his special interests, Joe enjoyed traveling, driving motorcycles, flying airplanes, and reading novels, but his greatest special interest was helping his neighbors.

Joe was also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, Sr. and Eda Overman; by his brother, Donald and the aunt and uncle who raised him, Nora and Samuel Wilkey.

Survivors include his three step-children and their spouses, Gayle MacDonald, of Portland, Oregon; Jim and Kari Jane MacDonald, of Forest Grove, Oregon and Greg MacDonald and Donna Hughes, of King City, Oregon; his three grandchildren, Heather Pieper; Nathan MacDonald and Nicholas MacDonald and her three great-grandchildren, Shelby, Paige and Samantha Pieper and several nieces and nephews, including Kelley Naba; Jennie Overman and Georgia Rafati, both of whom visited him many times at the end of life.
