Obituary

Ronald Lee Hoffman passed away peacefully in his home to be with his Heavenly Father on October 26, 2024.  He was born July 20, 1949 in Twin Falls, Idaho to his parents Bernard and Louise Hoffman.  He is survived by his three sons Jeffrey (Laiva) Hoffman, Zachary Hoffman and Joel (Amy) Hoffman; and his 5 grandchildren Megan, Trevor, Ella, Sullivan, and Annaleigh.  He is also survived by his three sisters Nancy (John) Brune, Elaine (Sam) Wida, and Susan (Tim) Martinez.

Ron graduated from the University of Idaho in 1973 where he was the mascot.  He met his wife Sandra Hoffman in August of 1974 and they married March of 1975.  In 1976 Ron and Sandy joined Campus Crusade for Christ and worked for their headquarters in San Bernardino, California.  Ron did a variety of jobs while working for Campus Crusade but most of his time was working on his visual aides for various publications the organization put out.  In 1979, Ron and Sandy moved to Hillsboro, Oregon to help Pastor Goodfellow of Zion Lutheran with the development of a discipleship program.

Over the years, Ron used his artistry, sales and managerial skills working for various companies such as Western Kraft, Anderson & Vreeland, Tacoma Rubber Stamp, and Weyerhaeuser in Beaverton (which became International Paper).  He retired in 2017 and started to work in the Pro Shop at Claremont Golf Course near them & enjoyed playing golf for free.  In 2019 Ron’s health started to decline and his family noticed that he was having issues with balance and falls.  In January of 2020 Ron was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and was no longer able to work.

Ron loved doing things to teach others about Jesus’ deep abiding love for them.  At Zion Lutheran Church Ron taught Bible and discipleship classes, preached sermons, was an elder and lead in evangelism for that church.  In 1987 Ron & his family switched churches to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and got highly involved there where he taught Sunday School, various Bible Studies, lead various Small Groups, played on the church’s softball and basketball teams, was an elder, sang in Worship Team, was the chair for the Care Committee and helped with evangelism wherever he could.

Ron loved to read his Bible, talk to others about his faith, exercise, garden, camp, fish, golf, ski and spend time with his wife, his three boys and their families.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on November 2nd, 2024 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  18865 SW Johnson St., Aloha, OR 97003.
