Maureen Ernst, 69, of Mt. Angel, passed away after a short, but fierce fight with cancer. Maureen was a leader of numerous community organizations in Mt. Angel and St. Paul, including the St. Paul Catholic Church, Historical Society along with Mt. Angel Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club, and Hazelnut Festival, only to name a few.

\"Grammy\" was a spirited sports fan and attended hundreds of her children and grandchildren's games. She was the ultimate competitor from the stands.

Maureen is survived by her children, Angela Capps (Troy), Ben Ernst (Ann) and Madeline Tanner (Rob); and grandchildren: Margo Metcalf-Capps, McKaylie and Brynn Capps; Zachary and Riley Ernst; and Kellen and Allison Tanner. Siblings Sue Price (Jim), Peggy Sellers (John), Mary Paret (Jack) and Dan Drescher (Jodi). She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Marguerite Drescher.

Funeral services are May 4, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. Rosary is at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11:00

Donations may be sent to the Mt. Angel Chamber of Commerce and/or the Redmond High School Girls Basketball Team, Redmond, OR.

St Paul - Native, Shirley Ernst, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was 91 years old.

She was born July 17, 1927 in Portland Oregon to Maurice and Mae Smith. She attended school in St Paul graduating from St Paul Union High School in 1945. In the fall 1945, she enrolled at the University of

Portland. She received her nursing degree and started working at St Vincent's Hospital in Portland.

After some time she returned home and began nursing at Newberg Hospital. In 1951 she married Jim Ernst.

She raised 6 children with Jim in St Paul. During those years she devoted many volunteer hours in St Paul to the Catholic Church, Parochial School, High School, Fire District, Rodeo-related Activities, Marion County Health Department and Marion County Elections Committee.

She enjoyed her family and spending time visiting while bowling, golfing, camping, playing cards, watching sports or just talking.

Survivors include: sister Nancy Schneider, brother Jerry Smith, sons Randy and Robert, daughters Denise Bizon, Doreen Ernst and Kim Stone, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters Delores Mckillip, Patricia Kirk and Margaret McKilip, husband Jim, daughters Kathy Jo and Jolene Parrish and 1 granddaughter.

Funeral Services will be held for Shirley on Friday June 7, at the St Paul Catholic Church, St Paul, Oregon, 10:15am Rosary 11:00am Funeral Mass followed by a burial service at the St Paul Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St Paul Catholic Church, or the St Paul Fire District.

Maxine Anne Ernst Brassel, 85, passed away October 12 at home surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born September 29, 1934 in Newberg, Oregon. The oldest daughter of Norman and Frances Ernst. Maxine grew up in St. Paul, OR on the family farm, and graduated from St. Paul High school in 1952. She continued her education at Marylhurst College, graduating in 1956 with a degree in Education, and a minor in Music.

Upon graduating from college, Maxine began her career as a teacher at Hubbard Grade school. She taught several years at Washington Elementary school in Woodburn. She then accepted a position at St. Luke's Parochial Grade School where she stayed until her retirement at the age of 62. She was widely thought of as a wonderful teacher and the impact she had on her student's lives will never be forgotten.

On Nov 17, 1956, Maxine married William F. Brassel and had 4 wonderful children. She has 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren, whom she treasured.

Maxine grew up in a family of musicians, and throughout her life music was her love. She began playing the piano at a very young age and enjoyed giving concerts throughout her life. She was the St. Luke's parish pianist, and organist for many, many years retiring in the summer of 2019. Maxine shared her love, and talent for music, teaching piano and guitar to students for many years.

She was also a member of the Portland Monday Musical club and enjoyed playing Two Piano Duet concerts yearly to raise money for local musical scholarships.

Maxine loved the outdoors, spending many years camping, cross country skiing, hiking, boating and fishing. In later years she enjoyed playing golf with family and friends. She returned yearly to her family's \"N.L. Ernst\" peach orchard where she loved to assist during the annual harvests. She was a member of PEO, and a Bible Study fellowship.

Maxine also loved to support her grand children, great grand children, and her many niece's and nephews. She would always show her support in their many school and extracurricular activities; some of which involved track and field, soccer matches, basketball games, swim meets, 4H, dance recitals, football games, orchestra concerts, choir concerts, drum corp, cheer and many more.

Maxine is survived by her sister Carol Brentano, brother Richard Ernst (Sissy), and brother Michael Ernst (Kelly). Her daughter Karen James (Randy), daughter Nancy Andrews, daughter Joan Shelton (Tim) and son Jim Brassel(Carrie), 9 grandchildren children, and 7 great grand children.

Maxine's adventurous spirit, sense of humor and never ending love will be missed daily by her friends and family.
