Obituary

Raoul Rocky" Schober passed away November 13th, 2021, in Murfreesboro, TN. He was 76 years Ma. He was born on November 28th, 1944, in Yamil County, Oregon to Raoul Franz Schober and Margaret Katherine Berhorst (predeceased).

After graduating high school, Rocky served in the US Nawy from January 1964 to December 1967.

During that time, he was able to travel the pacific and spend time in Japan, Hawaii, and the Philippines. He served aboard two different aircraft carriers and worked with Heavy Attack Squadron Eight, servicing and maintaining an in -flight refueling aircraft. While in the Naw, during one of his trips to the Philippines, he purchased a Stella guitar. Years later Nirvana released their Never mind album with acoustic guitar parts recorded using the same year make and model of that Stella. Rocky taught himself how to play that guitar and was always plucking away to some Johnny Cash.

Rocky had a passion for the rodeo scene. He spent some of his younger years performing in the rodeo and went on to spend many more years enjoying as an avid spectator. One of his favorite times of the year was the 4th of the July, where he would spend time with his "best friend since 1st grade, Kenny Coleman", at the St. Paul Rodeo in Saint Paul, Oregon.

He also loved playing poker. He spent many Saturday nights with his dearest friends, Tom, Linda, Harold and Hazel playing poker together. Before permanently relocating to Tennessee, while visiting, Rocky liked to joke with his kids as they played poker, stating he was going to take home some "Tennessee Money".

Rocky was a retired Semi-truck driver. He loved his career and, even after retiring in 2008, was always talking about the places he was able to visit and people he got to meet - he had never met a stranger.

Rocky is predeceased by his parents. He will be dearly missed and is survived by his children: daughter Wendy Schober and her 3 children, Tiana, Isaiah, and Ty, daughter Nicole Vandgrift (David); and son Jacob Schober (Nikki) and his daughter, Isabella; as well as his sisters: Cynthia Hoffman and her children; and Bonnie Watson and her children.

A special thanks to the staff at Creekside Assisted Living, and the staff at Avalon Hospice for providing him care filled with love and respect in his final months. In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Saint Paul Catholic Church in Saint Paul, Oregon: P.O. Box 454, Saint Paul, OR 97137.
