Joan Marie Heynderickx, 77, a resident of the Cornelius community died Thursday morning, August 9, 2012 at her home after a long 12 year battle with cancer.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Rd in Verboort. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.

Rite of Christian Burial and Vault interment will follow the Mass held at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the burial rites held in the parish hall.

Joan was born on December 4, 1934 in Martinez, CA. She was the third oldest of four girls born to Leo “Clifford” and Ann (Hermens) Bride. She was raised in California until the age of seven when Joan and her family moved to McMinnville, OR. She received her primary education at St James Catholic School and continued onto High School at McMinnville High.

She met her future husband, Cecil Heynderickx, through mutual friends. They married on January 19, 1952 at St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville. They moved to Cornelius following their marriage and in 1961 they made their home on the family farm on Heynderickx Rd. where they have lived since. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past January.

Joan was a devoted mother to her eight children and a loving wife. She not only was a farmer’s wife helping with daily chores around their farm but she also was a cook for several years, most recently for the Washington Co Corrections Facility from which she retired in 1989.

She loved to garden and raise flowers in her yard. She was also fond of animals and liked to ride horses. Cecil and Joan also enjoyed traveling to the Oregon coast and they also wintered in Surprise, AZ. for several years. She was talented at sewing, crafts and cooking. Joan’s family was always her pride and joy and she especially loved her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and three children; Steven James who died in 1956, Lynette Cecilia who died in 1968, and Gary Lee who died in 1995

Survivors include her loving husband; Cecil of the family home, five children and their spouses; Nick and Annie Heynderickx of Forest Grove, OR, Lori and Scott Jackson of Gilbert, AZ, Leanne and Pat Handley of St Helens, OR, Lisa and Ken VanDyke of Cornelius, OR, Loni and John Wren of Banks, OR, three sisters; Barbara Inman, Lois Wade, Sandie Shook, 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
