Cave-in kills Hilaire son Former Portlander Kerry Hilaire, 35, was killed Thursday afternoon in a ditch cave-in near his home in Homer, Alaska, members of his family said. Hilaire, who served in executive positions with Western International Hotels, Inc., including the Benson Hotel in Portland and the Space Needle in Seattle, was born and reared in Portland. He was the son of restaurateur Larry Hilaire. Young Hilaire's sister, Karen Nickolas, said the family had not heard details of the accident. Police in Homer also could not provide information Thursday evening. Along with his parents and sister, Hilaire is survived by his wife Claudia and daughters Tamara, 13, and Teresa, 11.
