Obituary

ALFREDA LAURA “FREDA” BOOGAARD was born August 22, 1914 on a farm in Wilmont, Noble County, Minnesota, the daughter of August and Mary (Vandenberghe) De Clerck. In 1920, she moved with her family to Butler, Minnesota, where she was raised and received her education. In the spring of 1934, she went with her sister, Alice to live with their uncles in Palmyra, New York. While living in Palmyra, Freda worked as a housekeeper and later for a Doctor, earning $7.00 a week. In February of 1935, she returned to the Butler community.
She was united in marriage to Cornelius L. “Con” Boogaard on March 4, 1935. Following their marriage they made their home on her parent's farm and later on their own farm. In 1952, they moved to Oregon, settling in the Verboort community. Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Con, on March 4, 1995, on their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Freda was a homemaker and mother to their nine children.
She was a member of the Catholic Church, having attended Holy Cross Parish in Butler, Minnesota and after moving to Verboort, she attended Visitation Parish, having been active with the Altar Society and choir. She also was a 50 yr. member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Among her special interests, Freda enjoyed flowers, gardening, traveling and square dancing. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing. | She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Virginia at age two; one brother; and two sisters.
Freda passed away March 8, 2003 at the Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Vivienne Boogaard of Cornelius, Oregon; Jerome and Lois Boogaard of Forest Grove, Oregon; and Dr. Ronald and Marilyn Boogaard of Lebanon, Pennsylvania; five daughters and sons-in-law, Sister Janice Boogaard, S.S.M.O. of Beaverton, Oregon; Beverly and Joseph Evers of Banks, Oregon; Darlene and Chuck Moore of Aloha, Oregon; Marjorie ind Walt Vandehey of Cornelius, Oregon; and Joyce and Jerrome Hunter of Forest Grove, Oregon; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alice Kircher of New York;and Marcela and Ignatius Evers of Forest Grove, Oregon; a ister-in-law, Gertrude De Clerck of Bend, Oregon; and two brothers-inaw, Melvin LaDue of New York and William Braukmann of Pennsylvania.
Also surviving are twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-four greatrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
