Obituary

Mrs. Burns lived in Hillsboro from 1964 to 1997, when she moved to Forest View Care Center in Forest Grove.
She was an active member of St. Alexander's Altar Society in Cornelius and an active member of St. Matthew's Parish in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Burns enjoyed bingo, playing pinochle, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Charles Burns, Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Judy Burns, Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Samantha and Jonathan Burns, Vancouver; two brothers, Tony VanGrunsven, Hillsboro, and Henry VanGrunsven, Verboort; and 26 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Forest Grove Memorial Chapel of Forest Grove is in charge of arrangements.
Delia Burns, 88, rites Wednesday
Delia C. Burns, 88, Hillsboro, died July 4, 1998, at Forest View Care Center in Forest Grove.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, 4285 NW Visitation Road, Verboort, with Father Joseph Heuberger as celebrant.
Interment will follow in BURNS Visitation Cemetery in Verboort.
Family and friends are invited to a reception at the parish hall in Verboort immediately following the cemetery rites
The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be this evening at 7 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Burns was born Sept. 25, 1909, in Linden, Holland, a daughter of Antone and Johanna Cosman VanGrunsven. At the age of 6 months, she moved with her family to Verboort and was raised on the family farm, and attended Verboort School
At age 14, she started working in local canneries and then worked as a welder in the Portland shipyards during World War II.
On Feb. 14, 1944, she married John Burns in Portland. They lived in Timber and Cornelius. Her husband died in 1956.
