Harlan Richard Crop
Obituary
Harlan Richard Crop, 75, a resident of North Plains passed away on January 8, 2025.
Harlan was born on October 3rd 1949 in Hillsboro, OR. He was the second of four children born to Alvin and Florence (Markee) Crop. The family soon relocated from Hillsboro to the Verboort area where Harlan was raised, graduating from Forest Grove High School in 1967. Following High School, Harlan enrolled at Oregon State University earning a B.S. of Economics degree in 1971 and later an MBA from Portland State in 1978.
Just prior to graduating college, Harlan married his high school sweetheart, Mary Cheslock. The couple eventually welcomed two boys, Rich and Chris before divorcing in 1976.
Harlan spent his first 24 years, post-graduation, working in Finance and Insurance for various firms such as Dial Finance, Sedwick James, West & Busch, Prudential and Country Companies, ultimately specializing in commercial insurance and related securities. By 1995 with his children grown, Harlan decided to hang up his suit and tie, and transition into a completely different line of work, truck driving. He went on to work for Stewart Stiles/NFC and later some long-haul carriers before joining a firm for his last 10 years prior to retirement, who delivered brand new Freightliner equipment throughout North America. He was a Delta million miller as a result and enjoyed a relatively travel free retirement as he had already been everywhere he had wanted to go.
Special interest automobiles were a lifelong passion for Harlan. Over the years he owned nearly every Triumph model produced. After tiring of Triumphs, he moved on to other cars like Porsche, Maserati and Corvette for a change of pace. He also enjoyed permit based whitewater rafting in his younger years and was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast owning several special bikes such as the Kawasaki “widow maker” triple and Honda CBX.
Harlan was a very proud grandfather and thoroughly enjoyed his three granddaughters. He closely followed and attended, whenever possible, their extracurricular activities in Theater and Sports. A lifelong lover of chocolate, tootsie rolls, gummy bears and other candies he could be relied upon to have them on hand or send them as gifts to his granddaughters, sons or anyone around him.
He is survived by his two children and their spouses: Chris and Danielle Crop of Phoenix, AZ, Rich and Theresa Crop of Hillsboro, OR and granddaughters Anna, Mariah and Madison.
