Obituary
Helen E. Delplanche, 98, a longtime resident of the Verboort community died Monday morning, July 25, 2011 at the Silver Cloud Adult Foster Care home in Forest Grove.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 AM and Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM on Saturday July 30, 2011 at the Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Rd in Verboort, OR.
Immediately following the Mass, Rite of Christian Burial and vault interment will take place at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort.
A reception will follow the services to be held at the Parish Hall.
Helen was born on February 7, 1913 in St. Johns, OR. She was the daughter of Achiel and Eugenia (Maes) Claeys. She lived with her family on a small farm in St. Johns until the age of eight when they moved back to their native country in Belgium. In 1928 Helen and her family moved back to Hillsboro, Oregon settling on the Bagley farm.
She met her future husband John “Jack” Delplanche, at the different social dances that were common throughout the Washington county area. They were married on November 28, 1935 in Hillsboro, OR. Following their marriage they made their home on the family farm in Verboort, OR. Jack died in 1980 and Helen continued to live on the farm until just recently when her health necessitated her move into foster care.
Helen was an active homemaker. She not only raised five children but also helped work on the family farm. She enjoyed raising a big garden, especially her “Belgium peas”. She crocheted, was involved in her parish, enjoyed cards with friends and had done some traveling in her later years. Helen especially enjoyed her family, visits from her grandchildren and the close group of friends that she had through the years.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, “Jack”, two daughters; Marie Solomon, Jeanne Hunker a grandson; Doug
las Delplanche and a great grandson; Adam Bower.
Survivors include her three children and a daughter-in-law; Marv Delplanche of Beaverton, OR, Ron and Carolyn Delplanche of Cornelius, OR, Betty Vanderzanden of Banks, OR, 19 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
