Obituary

WILFRED A. "BILL" GREENE was born June 13, 1899 at Greenville, just south of Banks, Oregon. He was the son of the late Theodore Greene and Minnie Marsh Greene. He was raised in the Greenville area and attended grade school at the Greenville school, followed by attending the Banks High School. Upon completing his education he went to work in the farming industry, followed later by the logging industry. He was united in marriage to Dora Vanderzanden on November 28, 1922 at Forest Grove. They celebrated their 62nd Year Wedding Anniversary this past November. Following their marriage they moved to Timber, Oregon where they lived while Bill worked in the woods. They later moved to The Dalles, Oregon where they lived for a period of two years before returning to the Verboort community. They have resided in Verboort for the past forty-five years, having owned and operated the Verboort Grocery Store for twenty-five years. In 1983 they sold the Store and retired. Among his special interests he was an avid sports fan and he especially enjoyed baseball. Mr. Greene played semipro baseball for several years. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Greene was a longtime member of the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort and a member of the Order of Foresters. Mr. Greene died Friday morning, July 26, 1985 at his home in Verboort, following a heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Dora, of the family home in Verboort, Oregon; three sons, Richard A. Greene, of Boring, Oregon; Ellis W. Greene, of Forest Grove, Oregon; and Alan B. Greene, of Forest Grove, Oregon; and two daughters, Dorothy Sherratt, of Hillsboro, Oregon; and Judith Walker, of Estacada, Oregon. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Visitation Catholic Church Parish Center, Route 2 Box 222, Forest Grove, Oregon 97116, in his memory.
