Clarence “Kenzie” Josten was born on October 1st, 1920 to Joseph and Anne Josten. He grew up with 6 brothers and sisters on his parent’s farm in Elgin, NB where he attended St. Boniface Catholic School. In 1942 Kenzie joined the Navy and proudly served our country in World War II before his honorable discharge in 1945.

On November 23rd, 1948 he married his wife Clementine Buelt in Raevelle, NB and they spent the next 7 years farming cattle and growing corn and grain in his hometown of Elgin. It was a 3-year drought that stalled his farming and ultimately moved Kenzie and Clem to Hillsboro, OR with three of their now 5 children, where they would reside for the next 25 years. He continued to farm as a hobby while he worked at ITT Grinnel for a living and he and Clem raised their 5 children.

Clarence was an active member of the Elks Club, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, a fourth degree Knight, an honorable Veteran but above all, he was a loving father & husband and wanted the best life for his family. In 1980 he retired from ITT Grinnel with plans to live the life he was born to live; a farmer in a small town. He and Clem moved to Powell Butte, OR where they bought a ranch, raised cattle and crops, and watched their family grow from 5 children to 14 grandchildren. If you didn’t get to know the hard working rancher side of Clarence, then you must have known the spirited man sitting on the front porch, playing cards, with a cocktail in his hand always visiting with family, friends and neighbors. The luckiest of us got to experience both; the man we called our husband, our father, our grandfather, and our friend.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Clementine, of 66 years; four children and their spouses; Roxy Mauss of Hillsboro, OR, Carol and Cliff Wesner of Lake Oswego, OR, Jerry and Linda Josten of Hillsboro, OR, Jeff and Chris Josten of Sisters, OR, a son-in-law; Larry Steen of Hillsboro and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving daughter Sharon Steen and infant son Clarence Josten Jr.

The family suggest contributions to Care Partners Hospice and Palliative Care; 1600 NW Compton Dr Suite 210, Hillsboro OR 97006
