GERVASE J. "GERVE" JANSEN was born February 23, 1918 in Verboort, Oregon, the son of Albert and Theodora (VanDyke) Jansen. He was raised and received his education in the Verboort community, graduating from Verboort High School. He was united in marriage to Margaret Mary Heesacker on August 12, 1941 in Roy, Oregon. They were married in Roy because the church in Verboort had burned down. Following their marriage they have made their home in Verboort. Their 58th Wedding Anniversary is next month. In 1939, Gerve starting working in the rock business. In 1959 he started his own business, "Gerve Jansen Trucking", which he ran until 1984 when he retired. Although he had officially retired, Gerve kept one truck until 1988. He was a lifelong member of the Visitation Catholic Church. In the 1930's, Gerve played baseball with the Tualatin Valley League. He also enjoyed playing softball and trapshooting. He was a handyman around the house. Work was important to Gerve and he always worked hard at whatever he was doing. Gerve was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Maurice Jansen and Vern Jansen; and a sister, Mary Hafner. Gerve died July 8, 1999 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. "Marge" Jansen, of the family home in Verboort; a daughter, Millie Ault of Sacramento, California; two sons, Rick Jansen of Portland, Oregon and John Jansen of Verboort, Oregon; two brothers and sisters-inlaw, Pete and Marilyn Jansen of Verboort, Oregon; and Larry and Eileen Jansen of Verboort, Oregon; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Arlene Herinckx of Verboort, Oregon; and Marty and Pat Eberly of Veneta, Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Jansen of Banks, Oregon; and Dorothy Jansen of Gaston, Oregon; a brother-in-law, Darol Hafner of Pacific, Washington; a granddaughter, Lynn Lord of Sacramento, California; a step-grandson, Jason Wisser of Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. ****************************** The family suggests that remembrances be for mass offerings or to the Washington County Hospice, 427 SE 8th Avenue, Hillsboro, Oregon 97123, in his memory. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the cemetery rites, to be held in the Parish Center at the church.
