Obituary
Irene Martha Jansen was born August 4, 2017, in Portland,
Oregon, the daughter of the late John B. McGinn and Irma (Koch) McGinn. She was raised and received her education in Cornelius and Hillsboro, having attended the Fernhill Grade School, south of Cornelius and the Hillsboro High School, graduating with the class of 1947. She was very active in school activities as she was a member of the Ski Club, the tennis team and the school band, having played the clarinet.
While attending high school she worked for the Fairway Market in Hillsboro. Upon her graduation she went to work for the West Coast Telephone Company, having worked as a switchboard supervisor.
She was united in marriage to Wilbur "Pete" Jansen on April 3, 1951, at Hillsboro, Oregon. They celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary this past April. After her marriage she worked for the Kindel Sausage Company in Verboort for several years. Irene also worked for the Papa Aldo's Take & Bake Pizza Shop in Forest Grove.
Following their marriage, they moved to the family farm in Verboort in 1951, having resided there for the past 38 years. Irene was an active working partner along with her husband and eldest son in the Wil-Rene Dairy Farm in Verboort.
Mrs. Jansen was raised in the Catholic Faith. During her younger years she was a member of the St. Matthews Catholic Church in Hillsboro. After moving to Verboort, she became a member of the visitation Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society and served on many committees for the annual Verboort Sausage Feed. She operated the Parish Center for many years, having helped design the kitchen.
Irene was also an active member of the 4-N-8'ers square dance club in Verboort and the 4-H Club, having served in Dairy for 12 years. Among her special interests she enjoyed raising flowers, yardwork and bowling.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Jansen on May 15, 1970, at Hillsboro, Oregon.
Mrs. Jansen died Monday evening, March 13, 1989, at the Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital in Portland. She is survived by her husband, Wilbur "Pete" of the family home in Verboort; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sherry Jansen; and Daniel Jansen all of Verboort; five daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia "Patty" and Byron Meadows of Salem, Oregon; Linda and Bruce Heintz of Portland, Oregon; Carolyn and Marvin Vanaken of Forest Grove, Oregon; Jackie and John Thomas of Beaverton, Oregon; and Susan Jansen of Verboort; a brother, Harry McGinn of Punta Gorda, Florida; and a sister, Rose McGinn of Herron Island, Washington.
• Also surviving are five grandchildren, Joshua and Angela Meadows of Salem, Oregon and Andy, Katie and Kristin Heintz of Portland, Oregon. and a very longtime special friend
