Dorothy Frances Peters
Obituary
Dorothy was born on May 25th, 1932, in New York Mills, Minnesota to Henry and Judith (Polman) Braukman. She was the oldest of five children. After spending most of her childhood in Minnesota, her family moved to Verboort when Dorothy was in her early teens, and she graduated from Verboort High School in 1950. While at Verboort High School, she met Leander Peters.
Dorothy and Leander got married at Fort Jackson in South Carolina on March 30th, 1951, while he was in the Army. They returned to Oregon shortly after, and spent the rest of their lives in Washington County.
Dorothy could do anything with a sewing machine, and she sewed all of her daughters’ clothing when they were young, and continued with mending and alterations as their families grew. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and needlework, and she passed her love of handiwork to some of her daughters and grandchildren.
Dorothy also spent her time reading books, watching movies, playing cards, and vacationing with family, especially at the beach.
Dorothy worked at Sunset Grove Golf Course for many years and made many friends, but taking care of her family was her priority. She didn’t want to be the center of attention, or take credit for everything she did. She was a loving caregiver for family members for much of her life. She was a wonderful caring mother, admired and loved by many of her daughters’ friends.
Dorothy was a devout Catholic her entire life, diligently prayed the rosary throughout, and kept up with daily online masses in recent years.
Dorothy had a very happy and active life up until her last day, and for that her family is extremely grateful. Her house was always full of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who loved stopping by for a talk, to hang out, cook, and visit the toy closet.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leander, her children Jay Paul and Paula, her son-in-law, Gerry Romjue, and brothers Eugene and Henry “Butch” Braukman.
She is survived by her five daughters; Lyndel Peters, Renae (Dave) Ooley, Laura Romjue, Karen (Ron) Ooley, and Susan (Pete) Lepschat. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; Dustin (Caroline), Chelsie (George), MacKenzie (Jim), Aron, Ashley, Holly, Caitlin (Dale), Mitch (Taylor), Brad, Andy, and Scott. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren; Lon, Sawyer, Hudson, Tenley, Ellie, Owen, Wilder, June, Ronnie, and Forest. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Braukman and Tom Braukman.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Visitation Cemetery.
