Joann was born on May 6, 1938 in Forest Grove, OR. She was the third oldest of five children born to Lawrence and Rita (Vandehey) Spiering. She was raised on the family farm in Roy, OR and attended St Francis of Assisi Grade School until the 8th grade when she attended Banks High School. She graduated in 1956. She took some secretarial classes through Portland Community College.
She was united in marriage to Paul Peters on October 20, 1962. Following their marriage they made their home in Gales Creek. They moved to their new home north of Forest Grove in 1967. Joann worked for Tektronix until she decided to become a homemaker and raise her four daughters. She later worked as a Administrative Assistant at Pacific University for 10 years. She retired in 2001 from Washington County Fleet Management where she worked for almost ten years. She was diagnosed early this year with A.L.S.
Joann enjoyed sewing, quilting and fancy work. She loved her grandchildren and liked to sew things for them. Among her other interests were gardening and cooking. She also enjoyed spending time playing casino slots.   She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years Paul Peters of Forest Grove, Oregon, four children and their spouses; Lisa and Mike Goodrich of Philomath, Tammy and Jeff Boisselle of Beaverton, Janelle and Jim Kelly of Yamhill, Shelly Peters of Forest Grove, Joann's mother; Rita Spiering of Forest Grove, three brothers, one sister and four grandchildren: Tyler, Jeremy, Mackenzie and Cheyanna.
