Obituary

Evelyn Maria Vandervelden, 78, a resident of the Verboort community passed away Sunday morning, November 16, 2014 at the Jennings McCall Assisted Living Home in Forest Grove. 

Rosary and Funeral Mass will start at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2104 at Visitation Catholic Church, 4285 NW Visitation Rd in Verboort. 

Rite of Christian Burial will take place at Visitation Catholic Cemetery following the Mass 

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the services held in the parish hall. 

Evelyn was born on December 5, 1935 in Roy, OR. She was one of five children born to Joe and Edith (Vanderzanden) Meeuwsen. She was raised on the family farm in Roy and attended St Francis Grade School and Banks High School graduating with the Class of 1956. 

She met her future husband, Harold Vandervelden, while at a dance. They soon began dating and were married on September 6, 1956 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Roy. They began their family in a small house in Roy and then moved to their home in Verboort one year later. 

Evelyn was a devoted mother to her seven children. She also worked outside the home as a Registered Seed Technologist. She had worked for Burlingham Seed Co., VanDyke Seed Co. and most recently was employed with Jewett Cameron Seed Co. in North Plains. She enjoyed gardening and lawn figurines, was a quilter, and an exceptional cook. She was also a volunteer at her Parish, Visitation Catholic Church, were she was active in the Altar society and at the parish hall. Evelyn was also the loving disciplinary force behind her children and was proud of her children and grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her son, Michael, and two siblings; Alvin Meeuwsen and Gertrude Lee and a sister-in-law; Janice Meeuwsen 

She is survived by her loving husband, Harold, six children and their spouses; Clifford and Marianne Vandervelden of North Plains, Kenny Vandervelden of Verboort, Kathy and Gail Rust of La Grande, Marvin and Gig Vandervelden of Cornelius, Edward Vandervelden of Beaverton and Thomas Vandervelden of Beaverton, two siblings and a sister-in-law; Carrell and Judy Meeuwsen, Bernard "Barney" Meeuwsen, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews 

The family suggests donations in Evelyn's name to a Memorial Fund to Visitation Catholic Church.
