Obituary

George Spiesschaert was born August 4, 1915 at North Plains, Oregon, the son of the late Arthur Spiesschaert and Dinah (Peters) Spiesschaert. He was raised and received his education near Cornelius, where he grduated from the Cornelius Grade School. After completing his schooling he went to work farming with his father He drove his first team of horses at the age of ten years of age. As a young man he worked on several of the farms in the Hillsboro and Cornelius areas.

He was unitd in marriage to Mae Vanaken on September 10, 1940 at Cornelius, Oregon. Following their marriage they lived north of Verboort, where they lived and farmed for three years, before moving, to their present home just west of Verboort, where they have resided for over forty years. They had celebrated their 43rd Year Wedding Anniversary this past September. He has farmed with horses for over fifty years, and has owned a team of Registered Percherons for over thirty years.

George was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith, having been a member of the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort since 1940. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a member of the Verboort Cemetery Committee. He was active as a member of the Oregon Draft Horse Breeders Association. He has had an active part in all of the 4-H Wagon Train Trips. He was also a member of the Washington County Westerners Riding Club and a Charter member of the Forest Grove Elks Lodge #2440.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Spiesschaert, of the family home in Verboort; four sons, Darrel Spiesschaert, of Eugene, Oregon; Dean Spiesschaert, of Canby, Oregon; Lyle and Glen Spiesschaert, both of Forest Grove, Oregon; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Kay) Smith, of Roseburg, Oregon; and Mrs. John (Joan) Liebenrood, of Beaverton, Oregon; one brother, Larry Hilaire, of Portland, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Wyffels, of Cornelius, Oregon; and Mrs. Amrose (Martha) Chiotti, of Hillsboro, Oregon.

Also surviving are six grandchidren, Todd, Tim and Dan Smith, all of Roseburg, Oregon; Leon and Lori Spiesschaert, Both of Eugene, Oregon; and Justin Talbott, of Canby, Oregon.
