Antone Vandehey, born in Zeeland, Holland on April 27, 1827, married Allegonda School of Nestlerade, Holland, and they came to America about 1851. They settled first in Wisconsin,then emigrated to Verboort in 1876. They came with the second group of settlers to Verboort. Antone developed the art of smoking the now-famous Verboort sausage with willow wood. He made wooden shoes from selected willow wood and smoked the sausage with the willow wood shavings, not only for himself, but for all of his neighbors. His wife, Allegonda, made very good cheese, similar to cheddar cheese, in her cellar. She also served as midwife for the community. Antone and Allegonda made their final home in Centerville, a few miles north of Verboort, where they both died in 1903.
