Janet Verboort
Obituary
JANET ANTONIA VERBOORT was born November 14, 1914 in Lebanon, Oregon, the daughter of William and Catherine (Hermens) Evers. She was one of eight children. She was raised on the family farm and received her early education in McMinnville. Janet graduated from Tillamook Catholic High School, where she lived during the school year. Following high school, Janet worked in Portland as a housekeeper.
She was united in marriage to Arthur J. “Art” Verboort on June 1, 1937 at the St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville, Oregon. Following their marriage they made their home in the Verboort community. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Art, on February 17, 1991, after celebrating over fifty-three years of marriage.
Janet was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Visitation Catholic Church and had worked every Verboort sausage and kraut dinner, missing but one because of a new baby. Janet was spokesperson for the dinner and had been interviewed many times by the press. She was a member of the Visitation Altar Society.
Among her interests, Janet loved handywork of all kinds, sewing hundreds of potholders for the dinners, making quilts, afghans, etc. and mended everyones rips and tears. She also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and baking. Janet loved children and helped with their care to the very last. Her greatest joy in life was her family and always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Janet was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and sisters; and an infant daughter, Arnet Marie Verboort in 1955.
Janet passed away October 6, 2002 at the Providence St. Vincent Hospital in Portland. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois J. and Farren Kohler of Lincoln City; Nancy E. and Eugene Braukman of Cornelius; and Carol A. and David Leuthold of Tillamook; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence A. and Judy Verboort of Forest Grove; and Todd A. Verboort of North Plains; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Ann Evers of Dayton; and Raymond and Eileen Evers of Eugene.
Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.**
