Obituary

HENRY FRANCIS "POP" BRAUKMAN was born September 18, 1904, in Buer, Germany, the son of Bernard and Franciska (Budde) Braukman. At the age of two, Henry moved with his family to the United States, settling in Red Elm, South Dakota, where he was raised and received his early education. In 1919 they moved to Butler, Minnesota, where he completed his schooling.
He was married to Judith M. "Judy" Polman on April 14, 1931, in Butler, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they resided in Butler until 1948 when they moved to Oregon, settling in the Verboort community. In 1976 they moved into Forest Grove, where they had resided since. In more recent years, they made their home at the Homestead Community and currently were residing at the Vintage Suites. Pop was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, on December 31, 1997, after celebrating over sixty-six years of marriage.
During the late 1920's and 30's, Pop worked in the farming industry. After his marriage, he worked as a carpenter in the construction industry. In 1935, he began his contracting business, which he later owned and operated with his son, "Henry Braukman and Son Construction Company", specializing in residential construction. Pop worked in construction for thirty-five years until 1969 when he retired. He later owned and operated "Toys By Pop", which he designed and constructed from wood for family and friends.
He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, having attended Visitation Parish since moving to Verboort in 1948. He was a member of the Catholic Foresters. Among his interests, Pop enjoyed fishing and traveling. They spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona, Mexico and Hawaii.
Pop was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and Bernard "Bernie" Braukman.
Pop died January 7, 1998 at the Forest View Care Center in Forest Grove. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene H. "Gene" and Nancy Braukman of Cornelius; Henry P. "Butch" and Lanie Braukman of Hillsboro; and Thomas C. "Tom" and Felicia Braukman of Forest Grove; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy F. and Leander Peters of Cornelius; and Joyce Braukman of Garibaldi; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ann Kramer of Tigard; Məry Cramer of Beaverton; and Gertrude and Albert De Clerck of Bend; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Irene Braukman of Cornelius; and Bill and Edna Braukman of Cambridge, Pennsylvania; two sisters-in-law, Josie Braukman of Perham, Minnesota; and Clara Braukman of Forest Grove; and a special friend, Joan Jensen.
Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to Visitation School Endowment Fund, 4257 SW Visitation Road, Forest Grove, OR 97116; or to the Visitation Cemetery Endowment Fund, 4285 Visitation Road, Forest Grove, OR 97116, in his memory.
