Obituary

Walter James “Babe” Lepschat, 77, a resident of the Verboort community died Tuesday morning, April 27, 2010 at his home.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 9:30 AM on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Road in Verboort.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 Am on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort.

Rite of Christian Burial and Vault interment will take place immediately following the Mass to be held at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort.

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Cemetery rites to be held at the Visitation Parish Hall in Verboort.


Babe was born on September 12, 1932 in Forest Grove, Oregon. He was one of seven children born to William and Josephine (Bernards) Lepschat. He was raised on the family farm in Verboort and was educated at Verboort High School, graduating with the Class of 1951.
He enlisted into the US Coast Guard in November, 1951 and was honorably discharged from the reserves in November, 1959.
Babe was united in marriage to Rosella Kemper on February 5, 1955 at the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort, Oregon. Following their marriage they made their home in Tillamook, then Dilley, and then moved to the farm in Verboort in 1962. Rosella passed away in October, 1995. Babe married Judy Donaldson on December 31, 1998 in Forest Grove, Oregon.
Babe in his early years worked as a timber faller and logger. In 1962 he began farming full time until his retirement in 1989.
Among his interests were hunting, fishing, crabbing and clamming. He also enjoyed running his power saw and making firewood. Babe enjoyed traveling to Reno for a little gambling and to Alaska fishing for halibut and salmon.
He is preceded in death by his wife Rosella, a son Paul, and siblings Billy Lepschat, Bob Lepschat and Ethel Nordgren.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Lepschat, his ten children and their spouses: Nichola and Blayde Fry of Olympia, WA, Norman and Janell Lepschat of Afognak Island, AK, Sandy and John Brett of Hillsboro, OR, Steven and Donna Lepschat of
