EVERETT CHARLES VANDEHEY was born October 5, 1923 in Banks, Oregon the son of August and Helen (Heynderickx) Vandehey. He was raised and received his education in Banks, Oregon. Everett graduated from Banks high school in 1942. While in high school he enjoyed playing the game of baseball.
He was united in marriage to Eileen Mildred Crop on June 15, 1943 at the St. Frances of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy. Following their marriage they made their home in the Wilkesboro Oregon area before moving to Gaston Oregon where they farmed for several years. In 1963, they moved to the Forest Grove community where they raised their 4 children.
Everett was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church attending the St. Anthony parish for more than 40 years. Everett was also active in the Forest Grove BPOE Elks lodge 2440. In addition to farming and working in a lumber mill in his younger years, Everett worked at the Oregon State Forestry Department. He started working at the Forestry Department full time in 1957 until his retirement more than 30 years later. Everett loved holding his great granddaughters and playing with them during his final weeks.
Among his interests, Everett enjoyed Salmon fishing out of Pacific City, trout fishing in the central Oregon lakes, Elk and Deer hunting on both sides of the Cascade Range and coaching and watching baseball.
He was a member of the Tualatin Valley Rock & Gem Club in Forest Grove, having been an avid rock hound.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents August and Helen Vandehey, his sister Ella Mae Schneider, his brother in law Wayne Williams, his brother in law Wendlen Schneider, his brother in law Bob Cooper and Sam, his dog and longtime friend for 10 years.
He is survived by 6 sisters and brothers, Elmer Vandehey, Myrtle Williams, Alice Cooper, Delbert Vandehey, Douglas Vandehey and Clifford Vandehey.
Everett passed away April 7, 2015 at the Jennings McCall Assisted Living Facility in Forest Grove, Oregon.
He is survived by three sons and daughter-in-laws; Randy Vandehey of Oceanside Oregon, Brad and Megan Vandehey of Lake Oswego, Lynn Vandehey and Vickie of Dallas Oregon and one daughter and son-in-law, Raean and Tom Johnston of Forest Grove, 10 grandchildren, Rosemary Lee of Forest Grove; Jason Vandehey and his wife of Banks, Kristin and her husband Mike of Louisville, CO, Todd Vandehey of Portland; Chad Vandehey and his wife, Deena of Lebanon, Jeremy Vandehey of Portland, Adam Vandehey and his wife Tabitha of Beaverton, Sara and Mike Marshall of Forest Grove, Lindsey and Andy Caron and of Forest Grove, Matthew Johnston of Forest Grove and 12 great grandchildren.
