Harvey's Obituary

Harvey Theodore Van Dyke, 81, a resident of the Hillsboro community passed away on December 14, 2017 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro after a short illness.

In Lieu of flowers, Harvey’s charity of choice,  St Vincent De Paul,is recommended. A donation site will be available at the reception hall for those who wish.

Harvey was born on October 12, 1936 in Verboort, OR. He was the son of Theodore and Frances (Krieger) Van Dyke. Harvey was one of five children that grew up on the farm in Verboort. He attended Visitation Catholic Grade School and Verboort High School graduating with the Class of 1954.

Harvey served his country in the US Army for one year. He served in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1958 as a private.

He was united in marriage to Valerie Mortimer in 1962. They had three children, Paulla, Ted, and Patrick. They made their home in Forest Grove. They divorced in 1992. He met his wife Sharon McGowan and they were married in 1997 in Hillsboro. They made their home in Hillsboro.

Harvey had worked in the appliance business all of his life. He started at his father’s business Van Dyke Appliance in Forest Grove.  He was repairman, salesman and deliveryman.  Harvey enjoyed fly fishing and he made all of his own flies. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hunting. He enjoyed cooking and woodworking. Sharon and Harvey also enjoyed traveling. He volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul using his restoring skills to fix and repurpose donated items.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Lois Meeuwsen and Joan MacNab.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, three children and their spouses; Paulla and Tim Cuno of Forest Grove, Ted and Jackie Valentine of Laurelwood, Patrick and Tanya Van Dyke of Hillsboro, Sharon’s 5 children and extended family,  two siblings and a sister-in-law; Glen and Mary Ann VanDyke of Forest Grove, Diane Meeuwsen of Hillsboro, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
