Obituary

FRANCIS ANTONE "FRAN" EVERS was born March 29, 1922, on the family farm in Verboort, Oregon, the son of Antone and Petranella (Hermans) Evers. He was raised and educated in Verboort and Forest Grove, having attended Visitation School and graduating from Forest Grove High School in 1940. He was united in marriage to Louella M. VandenBerghe on January 11, 1958, in the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort. Following their marriage, they have made their home on the Evers Family Farm in Verboort. Fran and Louella celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary this past January. Fran was a farmer throughout his lifetime and was outstanding in his field. Over the years he had raised Hereford and Angus Cross Cattle, grain, wheat, oats, barley, and hay. He involved the entire family in the farming operation including his nephews. Fran retired in 1987 but was always willing to help out the other farmers when a need arose. He was a lifelong member of the Visitation Catholic Church. Over the years, Fran was actively involved in the Annual Verboort Sausage Dinner, having served as chairman several times. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, the Federal Land Bank Assoc., and the Washington County Livestock Assoc Fran was very meticulous in whatever activity he was involved in whether it was fishing, traveling, or his love for woodworking. Throughout the years, he had made quilt racks, over eighty rocking horses, and Jesus Crosses all of which were given as gifts to family and friends. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Fran also enjoyed his Farmall F-12 tractor, the first metal wheel tractor in Washington County and which he named "Sparkey". He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernie Evers and Robert Evers; and a son, Donald Francis Evers in 1974. Fran died November 5, 2000, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Louella M. Evers, of the family home in Verboort; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel F. "Dan" and Sheila Evers of Gaston; two daughters, Joanie M. Cunningham of Portland; and Rebecca K. "Becky" Croissant of Bothell, Washington; a brother, Willis Evers of Aloha; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille Kempen of Forest Grove; Sister Anna Evers, SSMO of Beaverton; Margaret and Rudy Landauer of Forest Grove; Barbara Jean "Bobbie" and Vernon Meeuwsen of Forest Grove; and Janice and Dick Duyck of LaCenter, Washington; four grandchildren, Amanda, Zach and Adam Croissant all of Bothell, Washington; and Xavier Francis Cunningham of Portland; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
