Obituary

Peggy Marie Spitz,89, a resident of the Cornelius community passed away on July 3, 2024, at the OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center in Hillsboro

Peggy was born on July 27, 1934, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.  She was the sixth of eleven children born to DeWitt and Verna Mae (McGill) Tiger. She lived in Oklahoma as a child and moved to Stayton, OR as a young girl. She attended Stayton High School graduating with the Class of 1952.

She met “the boy next door” her future husband, Lavern Spitz, when Lavern moved into the Stayton community. They soon began dating and married on June 7, 1952, in Stayton, OR.  They made their home in Stayton until 1960 when they moved to Turner, OR in 1970 they built a new home in Turner and lived there until 1973 when they bought their farm in Cornelius. Lavern passed away on June 26, 2018.

Peggy and Lavern had seven children, and the early part of Peggys life was raising her children. She went back to work after her littlest was in school and had secretarial positions in manufacturing. She retired as a county clerk for the District Court in Washington County.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, she was an avid gardener, reader of mystery novels and watching movies. Lavern and Peggy liked to go square dancing and play pinochle. 

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lavern, her parents and six siblings.

She is survived by seven children and their spouses, Pat and Jim Bouchie of Turner, Joe and Shirley Spitz of Beaverton, Kathy and Stanley Duyck of Cornelius, Carolyn and Steve Gossett of Cornelius, David and Rainey Spitz of Cornelius, Jim and Bo Spitz of Salem, Juanita Danielson of Tigard. Also surviving are four siblings, seventeen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
